Clifford Darrell Speicher, 87, of Fremont, passed away on the morning of Saturday May 30th at Methodist Fremont Health. Cliff was born on July 8th, 1932 in Columbus, NE to Martin and Elsie (Kluck) Speicher. He went to grade school in Columbus, NE. He graduated from St. Bonaventure Catholic School in Columbus in 1950. Cliff was an award-winning football player and track athlete. Cliff married Marilyn McCarty on February 16th, 1952 at St. Bonaventure’s and they lived across the street from his mother-in-law. They moved to Fremont in 1960 and Cliff worked as a meat cutter for many years and then was a delivery driver for Old Home Bread. Cliff then began a long 45-year career in sales at Fremont Office Equipment (Office.net) where he retired in 2013 to care for Marilyn. Cliff had a close relationship with all of his small-town clients. Cliff enjoyed golf, bowling, playing cards, and entertaining family and friends at Shang-ri-la, their lake cabin. He spent many hours completing Marilyn’s honey-do lists and helping her to maintain her love of flowers and the garden. Cliff was a perfectionist and had a strong work ethic, never missing a day of work and always going the extra mile. Cliff was preceded in death by Marilyn, his wife of 64 years. He was a loving caregiver for the last few years of her life. After Marilyn’s death, Cliff enjoyed his daily breakfast group, golfing, and workouts including water aerobics at the YMCA. Also preceding Cliff in death were his parents, three brothers: David, Dick, and Keith; son-in-law Charlie Clay and one great grandchild. Cliff is survived by three daughters: Kathy Speicher Miller of Omaha, Kris (John) Killough of Omaha, and Karlie Speicher-Clay of Kansas City; two sons: Kent (Karen) Speicher and Kurt Speicher, all of Fremont; brother, Bob Speicher of Kearney, NE; 10 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. In lieu of a visitation, there will be a Knights of Columbus Living Rosary on Friday June 5th at 2:00 pm at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Fremont. A memorial mass will follow at St. Patrick Catholic Church at 3:00 pm. There will be a private family burial at Calvary Cemetery following the service.
