Era Mae was the daughter of William M Hull and Anna Berta Flemming of Pittsburg. Texas. She was the wife of Roy Littleton Keeling and mother of Billie Eugene, Julia Ann, Roy Valentine "Buster," and Mary Jo. She was known to everybody in Upshur and Camp counties as Aunt Birdie. She told me once that when she was fifteen, she went to a dance in Pittsburg, Texas with a girlfriend. During the dance she said she noticed a very handsome man across the room, wearing a dark green suit. She watched him for awhile and then pointed him out to her girlfriend and told her that he was the man she was going to marry. She said that she married Uncle Roy a year later. A strong, remarkable woman, she lived alone on the farm for almost 50 years after uncle Roy died, and lived to be 98 years old. I once asked her why she had never married again after he died. She answered "When you've had the best, you'll never settle for second best." Rest in peace, Aunt Birdie. .
