October 15, 1932 - May 23, 2020 Peggy Ann Steele Yancy, age 87, was born in Giles County TN on October 15, 1932, as a beautiful daughter to Joseph and Nannie Elizabeth Steele. She passed from this life Saturday, May 23, 2020, at Tennova Healthcare of Tullahoma. Peggy was a Graduate of Marshal County High School in Lewisburg TN. Having a caring and loving spirit, Peggy pursued a nursing career and worked as a hospital nurse in Lewisburg, TN. She then attended Vanderbilt University to further her nursing career, until she fell in love with and married her husband of 65 years, Thomas Yancy. After her marriage, Peggy moved to Shelbyville and worked hand in hand as a floral designer and eventually became manager and co-owner of the family business, Yancy’s Florist. She served the public together with her husband until their retirement in the late nineties. In addition to her love of flower designing, she enjoyed decorating, cooking, and being with her family. Peggy loved the Lord and was a member of The First Baptist Church of Shelbyville, TN. She was preceded in death by: parents, Joseph and Nannie Elizabeth Steele; loving husband Thomas Yancy; brothers, Joe, Jr. and Jerry Steele; and sister, Sue Steele. Survivors include: children, Michael (Rheanne) Yancy of MT, and Debbie (Charles) Carney of Shelbyville; grandchildren, Christopher Yancy, Josh (Amy) Carney, Amber (Phillip) Poynor, Adam (Rachel) Carney; and great grandchildren, Brandon Wilson, Ryan Sanders, Blain Poynor, Mason Carney, Thomas Carney, Amelia Poynor, and Declan Carney. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital @ www.stjude.org or to Caregiver Relief Program of Bedford County @ P.O. Box 587 Shelbyville, TN 37162. A graveside service will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, May 29, 2020, at Willow Mount Cemetery with Pastor Drew Hays officiating. Doak-Howell Funeral Home is serving the family.
