Otto Leon Beard, 91, of Scipio, Oklahoma passed away on Saturday, May 16, 2020 at St. Francis Hospital in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Viewing will be held on Wednesday May 20, 2020 and Thursday May 21, 2020 from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Chaney's Memorial Chapel. The funeral service will be held on Friday, May 22, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at Chaney's Memorial Chapel with Rev. Fred Morrison officiating. The burial will follow at Hugh Low Cemetery, Scipio, Oklahoma under the direction of Chaney Harkins Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Jett Elfers, Darrion Brown, Isaiah Beard, Trotter Stewart, Mark Hall, Nicholas Stewart, Willie Beard. Otto was born on March 23, 1929 in Scipio, Oklahoma to W.B. Beard and Carrie (Winter) Beard. He married Mildred Sexton on October 13, 1976 in Scipio. Otto joined the U.S. Navy in 1950, serving in the Korean War and the Vietnam War until he retired after 30 years of service. Following retirement from the U.S. Navy, Otto worked for the Muskogee Bridge Construction Company working on the Oklahoma highway system, until retiring with them. He is survived by his wife, Mildred Beard of Scipio; children: Katherine Beard Hall and husband, Mark, of Hartshorne; Willie Beard of Scipio; Terry Stewart and wife, Karen of Morris, Tanya Jones and husband, Jim of McAlester, Karen Stewart of Indianola, Dean Stewart and wife, Jennifer of McAlester, and his sister: Mattie Franks of Denton, Texas; grandchildren: Darrion Brown, Jada Jackson, Olivia Jones, Isaiah Beard, Chase Trumbley, Reagan Collier, Allye Stewart, Trotter Stewart, Chastity Little Axe, Kara Garcia, Brittany Stewart, Gia Elfers, Jett Elfers, Tyler Cravines, Paige Stewart, Asia Stewart, Nicholas Stewart, a niece: Karrie Valenzuela of Denton, TX; a nephew: Mike Beard and wife, Lisa of McAlester; 10 great grandchildren; along with many other nieces, nephews and other family and friends. Otto is preceded in death by his parents: W.B. Beard and Carrie (Winter) Beard; five brothers: Carl, Olney, Utah, Kirby and Les Beard; a sister: Viola Clifton, and nephew Danny Beard.
