Thiessen entered heavens gates on Monday, January 28, 2019, at Kidron Village in North Newton, Kansas. He was born on August 30, 1927 to Abraham and Maria (Hoffman) Thiessen at his home near Munich, North Dakota. He received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Bible and Philosophy, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education, a Masters Degree in Education from Northeastern State University. Further academic studies followed at Emporia State University and Wichita State University. These academic studies prepared James for a lifetime of work as a pastor, teacher and school administrator. He was the Superintendent of Berean Academy in Elbing, KS for 28 years. James leaves behind the love of his life, Gladys, of North Newton KS and their children; Karen and Irv Busenitz of Santa Clarita, CA; Kerwin and Julie Thiessen of Valley Center, KS; Korrene and Michael Keenan of Houston, TX; Keith and Deb Thiessen of Omaha, NE and Kenneth and Marchel Thiessen of Valley Center, KS. He also leaves a legacy of 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at Whitewater Community Church in Whitewater Kansas on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at 10:00 am. Visitation will be Friday, February 1, 2019 at Whitewater Community Church from 6:30 to 8:00 pm. Memorials have been established with Berean Academy and Whitewater Community Church.
