HOULE BARRE, Dec. 22 - Rene O. Houle, 56, of 1 Cedar St.. longtime garage and filling staton operator on South Main Street, died suddenly about 3 Tuesday morning [22 Dec 1953]. Death was attributed to a heart attack. He had worked as usual on Monday, closing his filling station shortly before midnight. Born at East Hatley, P.Q., on July 26. 1897, he was the son of Frederick and Henrietta (Cubois) Houle. His early years were spent In Canada where he did farm work. He was married in Canada about 30 years ago to Lucy Casgrain, who survives him. The couple resided In Canada for a time after their marriage until the early 1920s. They moved to Barre at that time, but returned later to Canada to reside. About 23 years ago the family returned to Barre to reside permanently. For several years he was employed as a granite worker. Later he purchased a garage business at 189 S. Main St., which he operated for about 18 years. For the past several years he has operated Cities Service Station at 44 South Main St. Besides his wife, he leaves seven children, Romeo A. Houle, Roger E. Houle, Lucien Houle, and Rita E. Houle, all at home; Mrs. Roger (Germaine) Ferry of Nothfield, Mrs. Albert (Simone) Perreault of Barre, and Eugene C. Houle of Barre. Also, four brothers, Rev. Dorilla Houle and Arthur Houle, both of Coatieook, P.Q., Romeo Houle of East Hatley. P.O., Oliva Houle of Sherbrooke, P.O., and Albert Houle of Quebec, two grandchildren, Michael A. and Robin Lee Perreault, both of Barre.
