He was born March 4, 1921 in Rocky Ford, Oklahoma to Barney A. and Goldie L. (Shelton) Reed. Richard grew up and went to school in Ninnekah, Oklahoma. At the conclusion of the war Richard helped clear mine fields and unexploded bombs. Following Richard’s discharge from the military he traveled across the United States from south to north working many different harvests usually driving a combine. He would travel to Oregon to work as a lumberjack until it was time to go south for the next years’ crop harvest. Once Richard retired from work he moved back to Ninnekah to be with his family and do a lot of fishing. He was very good at fishing and was good at about everything he did. He could build anything and build it properly. Richard had a very good detailed memory, loved to tell stories and was a very social person.
