Bio
Geraldine R. Zhanel, 91, passed away in Ennis, Texas, on Wednesday, April 15, 2020. Burial will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery. Geraldine was born on December 5, 1928, in Bardwell, Texas, to the late Louis and Julia (Holy) Macalik. She grew up in Bardwell and graduated from Bardwell High School in 1947. On January 27, 1948, she married George Wesley Zhanel and they made their home in Bardwell. Geraldine worked for Ennis State Bank as a teller, and for Leggett and Platt as a data entry operator until her retirement in 1992. She was a member of St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, KJZT, Catholic Daughters, and Ennis Sewing Circles. Geraldine enjoyed quilting, vegetable gardening, and flower gardening. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Zhanel; and a sister, Adell Shebesta. Survivors include her daughter, Paula Serna; grandchildren, Bonny DeFreitas and her husband, Lee, and Ned Serna; three great-grandchildren; and many extended family and friends.
