Bio

Ocie "Opal" Coleman, age 100, went to the Lord, peacefully surrounded by her family on January 28th, 2011. She was born in Olten, Texas, on April 1, 1910 to Minnie and S.F. Harris. She was raised in the depression era and learned to be frugal and modest, for which is the way she lived, knowing the difference between a want and a need. She married John Emmons in 1929, and gave birth to twin daughters. Her second marriage to, Jessie Bun Coleman in 1932, brought her to Washington State and one additional daughter and son. She lived most of her life in the Tri-Cities. She was a homemaker for a while then she became a hard working single mother for many years, working at HR Simplot well past her retirement years. She raised her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and great grandchildren to have respect for the Lord. She taught our family, by example, to be generous, kind, compassionate, to forgive, and not be judgmental of others. She opened her heart, her home, and her resources to all in need, with an understanding of God's word. Over the years, she ministered in many tent revivals and through Day Spring ministry. She was an active Christian woman, ready every day of her life to accept God's will. She is survived by her daughters, Francine Coleman and Lola Faye Bravenec, sister, Marie Spade of Yakima and many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Minnie and S. F. Harris, first husband, John Emmons, second husband, Jessie B. Coleman, brothers, Sam, Herschel and Andrew Harris, son, Don Coleman Sr., daughter, Lona May Tague, son-in-law, Cecil Tague, son-in-law, Frank Bravenec and grandson, Don Coleman Jr. Funeral Service will be held Saturday, February 5th, 2011, 10:30 a.m., at Mueller's Tri-Cities Funeral Home, 1401 South Union, Kennewick with viewing on Friday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Reception for family and friends will follow at Hillview Baptist Church, 1621 West 27th Avenue in Kennewick.
