Bio
Artis Levan Stephens, age 91 of Decherd, passed away on Wednesday, April 1, 2020 at St Thomas West in Nashville. He was born in Franklin County on January 16, 1929 to the late George Edd and Viola (Miller) Stephens. Before his retirement, he was employed as a machine maintenance operator. Artis was a devoted member of Oaklawn Baptist Church. He enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, as well as cooking, especially pecan pies. Artis loved spending time with his beloved family, and he especially cherished the time with his granddaughter and great-granddaughter. In addition to his parents, Artis was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Stills Stephens; son, Gary Stephens; and siblings, J.B. Stephens, Horton Stephens, Emery Stephens, Azree Wilcox, and Mary Lee Salyer. He is survived by his loving daughter, Sharon Gipson of Winchester; granddaughter, Alissa Gipson (Trey McCarty) of Lynchburg; and great-granddaughter, Edalynn McCarty. A private service is planned with burial at Franklin Memorial Gardens. The register book and memorial cards will be available under the carport of Moore-Cortner Funeral Home from 12-1:30 pm on Sunday, April 5, 2020. An attendant will be available to assist you.
