Joe Alvin Simcik, age 86, died August 4, 2007. He was born January 31, 1921 in Taylor, Texas to J.P. Simcik and Adele Hejl Simcik. He was the third of seven children. He was married for 63 years to Lillian Rosalie Jez Simcik. He was a veteran of WWII having served in the U.S. Army 816th Tank Destroyer Battalion in the Philippines. He was a resident of the Taylor area where he farmed for most of his life and still resided on his farm. He was a life-long member of the Taylor Brethren Church and a former president of SPJST. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, sisters, Bertha Volek, Laverne Kerlin, and Lydia Jansen, and a brother, Albert Simcik. He is survived by brothers, Edmond Simcik and wife Evelyn, and Chester and wife Adrienne. He is also survived by numerous nephews and nieces. Visitation will be Tuesday, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Condra Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Wednesday, August 8, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at the Taylor Brethren Church, with Rev. James Hejl officiating. Burial will follow in Taylor City Cemetery. Condra Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. [Published in the Austin American-Statesman on 8/7/2007.]
