Darien Woman Killed by Train Mrs. Lulu Easterling Victim While Walking on Tracks Near Depot Darien —Mrs. Lulu Easterline. 68, died about 4:10 p. m. Monday enroute to Lakeland hospital of injuries suffered when she was struck by a Milwaukee road freight train near the Darien depot. Mrs. Eastering suffered a fractured left leg. head and internal injuries when the 84-car eastbound train hit her. Several witnesses said Mrs. Easterling was walking with her head down and as the train approached she was seen to look up, but apparently froze from fear. An ambulance took her to the hospital and she was pronounced dead on arrival at Elkhorn. The Walworth county sheriff's department said Pete Clark, Milwaukee, was engineer of the train and H. Lindley Jr., conductor. Friends of Mrs. Easterling said she had been visiting friends on the opposite side of the tracks from her home. The former Lulu Iva Welch, daughter of Sydney and Mary Ellen Welch, was born June 1, 1882, in Litchfield, Neb. She was married to Peter Easterling in Binton county. O, June 21, 1911. Mr. Easterling died April 5. 1928. and a sister, Alice, also preceded her in death. Mrs. Easterling was a member of Darien Baptist church, Unity chapter, Order of Eastern Star, and the Amoma Bible class. Surviving are twins. Robert Easterling, Shawano, and Roberta Easterling Blodgett, MMilwaukee;, a .son, Welch Easterling, Wauwatosa and a daughter Mildred Henschel, Allen Grove; a twin sister, Mrs. Luella Zimmerman, Mason City, Neb., and nine grandchildren.
