Bio

Elmer Calvin Freeland, son of Truman Freeland and Ida Rassmussen Freeland, was born November 2, 1909 at Burwell, Nebraska, and passed away September 21, 1976 at Omaha, Nebraska, at the age of 66 years, 10 months and 19 days. Turk lived all of his life in the Burwell community as his folks were among the first homesteaders in Garfield County. He received his education in the County, graduating from the Burwell High School in 1928. Early in life he was a plummer and at the time of his retirement was serving on the Burwell Police Force. He was united in marriage to Bertha Kinney in Burwell on July 6, 1935. To this union one child, Sonja, was born. Turk served his country in the Army during World War II serving in the European Theater. He was awarded the purple heart. He was a member of the American Legion and VFW. Left to hold sacred his memory are his daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Tucson Kenley of Phillips, Nebraska; four grandchildren; Tim Anderson, Vickie Anderson, Kurk Kenley, and Tondi Kenley, one brother, Jesse Freeland of Clancy, Montana; two half sisters and two half brothers living in Canada and one sister, Lavina Hale, living in Iowa, and one niece, Jackie Lee of Helena, Montana, and many other relatives and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents and his wife, Bertha, in 1969, two half brothers and two half sisters.
