Bio

Died at age 77. He was born in North Carolina, youngest son of Martin & Nancy Crouse, both born in Tennessee and came to Dickson (present day Hiwasse), Arkansas in 1872. Calaway had a twin brother, Joshua, who died two months earlier in Wagoner, Oklahoma. Also 4 sisters, Elizabeth Jane Duncan who died August 15, 1931, Eda Banks, Phoebe Banks, and Gilla Weatherly. Calaway married in 1873 (1) Matilda "Treda" Galyean with whom he had 6 children, 5 dying in infancy. Calaway married his second wife, Lucy Jane Rone on December 20, 1891. Lucy was the 13th child of 17, born to Matthew L. Rone. Her mother was Matthew's second wife, Martha Holman. The 1900 census states that Lucy was the mother of 3 children with 3 living. Children listed in 1900 were: 1. Samuel P. Crouse, born Dec 1882 (his mother was Treda) 2. Delphina Irene Crouse, born Sep 1892, her mother was Lucy. She married Near Holt, born 24 May 1883-12 Apr 1972. He was the s/o Dock I. & Jennie (Williams) Holt. They had a daughter Zelda Juanita who married Scott C. Duncan. 3. Trebia L. Crouse, born April 1894, her mother was Lucy. 4. Charles Wilford Crouse, born 14 Apr 1899, died Feb 1968. His mother was Lucy. He married Marie M. Schell.
