MRS. PATRICIA ANN SHIMEK, 66, passed away Sunday afternoon, July 20, 2008. Born June 21, 1942, in Ennis, TX, to John and Ella Pavlacka Mikel, she was the first grandchild for both sides of the family. She is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, Felix, and her four children, Janice Shimek, Stephanie Foster, Jeff Shimek and his wife Angela, and Kristi Shimek. Known by her grandchildren as "Granny" and "Kiki," Patricia adored her six grandchildren; Jeremy, Justin, Jordan, Megan, Paige, and Andrew. Patricia and Felix met in 1963 dancing at the Bill Mraz Dance Hall and married less than a year later on July 18, 1964, and have loved and danced many polkas and waltzes since. At age 14, she helped her parents support her siblings who survived her in death; Nancy Kaase, John Mikel, Jeanette Gonzales, and Ken Mikel, by working at the Woolworth Dept. store while attending school and graduating from Incarnate Word Academy in 1960. After more than 25 years, she retired from Kinder Morgan at age 64 leaving behind many wonderful friends. Patricia enjoyed making wedding floral arrangements for others, making candles, collecting Beanie Babies, and family gatherings. A strong woman, Patricia survived two heart surgeries in 2005 and battled Leukemia for nine months prior to her death. She left this world touching the lives of all who knew her. Patricia was welcomed into Heaven by her parents, and also cherished nephews, Mark and Rodney Kaase. Friends and family are invited to honor and celebrate her life from 5 to 9 p.m. on Friday, July 25, at Klein Funeral Home, Champions, where a Rosary service will commence at 7 p.m. The funeral service will be conducted at Prince of Peace Catholic Community, 19222 SH 249, at 11 a.m. on Saturday. The Rite of Committal will follow, via an escorted cortege, at Earthman Resthaven Cemetery in Houston. In lieu of flowers, a trust fund is being established in honor of Patricia Shimek, to help offset medical expenses. Donations may be made at the funeral home.
