McNutt Funeral Home & Crematory Terry was born in Houston, but the family soon returned to East Texas. When I was born 7 years later, he was the only boy of 5 kids. He was a lot of fun growing up with. I listened to a cassette many times that he and our sisters Tami and Cris made together, pretending to be on a radio talk show. It was full of entertainment and laughs. They had a tree house, built by our grandfather, that they sure loved. I remember wanting to climb that ladder so many times, and they'd yell down to me that I was too little. Our grandfather had a creek running through his property, and he would block the tunnel where the water flowed under the road, creating a pool for us. We'd spend time swimming with our country cousins. After our parents divorced, and our mother moved back to Houston, he remained in East to Southeast Texas for a while. I was there visiting when he and sister Tami were caught smoking cigarettes. They were made to sit in a chair surrounded by newspaper placed around them on the floor. They were forced to chew and swallow cigarette tobacco. They were sick and threw up on the newspaper. The minion of our father would pick up the soiled newspapers with a grin and place some more down. They were forced to continue to eat and swallow the cigarette tobacco. That was the summer of 1973. The physical and mental abuse there was profound, so he then began living again in Houston. Terry worked hard all of his life. He worked many years for a Houston moving company. For a number of years, he drove across the country as an 18-wheeler truck driver. Eventually he returned to East Texas and worked as a carpenter, which had always been his most enjoyed trade. He installed crown molding so well, making it look like one gorgeous, solid piece going all the way around a room. ∼ Terry passed away peacefully in the hospital with his only child, Adam, by his side. The internment of his ashes was at the family cemetery, Old Union, in Nacogdoches, County.
