Bio

Jeannie Kay Holcomb, 70, of Waco, passed away Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at a hospital in Temple, Texas. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday, September 3, at Grace Gardens Funeral Home Chapel and will be officiated by Bob Johns of First Baptist Church of Woodway. Jeannie was born on April 1, 1943, in McAlester, Okla. to Luther 'Luke' and Margaret 'Jean' Armon. Relocating frequently with her dad's job, Jeannie grew up along-side her three siblings in multiple Texas towns before graduating from Wylie High School in Abilene, Texas in 1961. Later that year, she coincidentally ran into Pat Holcomb in McKinney, Texas, (after meeting him years earlier in Trinidad, Texas) and the two were married in May of 1962. Settling in Waco in 1967, Jeannie raised three daughters, and then worked at Baylor University in the registrar's office for 20 years. Endlessly devoted to three active girls, she never missed a track meet, soccer game, softball game, dance recital, cheerleading event, or basketball game. In addition to dozens of family trips and vacations, she traveled to locations all over the world with Pat's sales job at IBM. Highly artistic, with talent for decorating and making things beautiful, Jeannie had a very giving spirit and was known for her amazing flower arrangements, handmade wreaths, beautifully wrapped Christmas presents, and centerpieces. Her decorating skills mixed with her love of Christmas drove her to create amazing Christmas light displays in her yard every year. Highly skilled in the kitchen, her home cooked suppers will not be forgotten by friends and family. Jeannie also had a keen ear for good music. Her appreciation for music was a constant, and she loved everything from Gospel (Gaither Group) to Jerry Jeff Walker to Top 40 (Matchbox Twenty). Up until her untimely death, Jeannie's commitment to her family remained strong and she devoted much of her time and energy to being a caregiver to family members. She spent countless hours outside in her yard nurturing her beloved plants. Her devotion to her family, the Lord, and her life-long friends remained strong and she enjoyed many outings, including concerts with her daughters up until her passing. She also loved watching Texas Rangers baseball games, watching her favorite TV shows, and talking on the phone for hours a day with each of her daughters. Jeannie is preceded on death by her husband of over 49 years, Pat Holcomb. Jeannie is survived by her three daughters, Jill and husband Jeff, Jan Valentine, and Judy Holcomb; her brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Cathy Armon, sister and brother-in-law, Christy and James Lane; and nephew Taylor. Mom we will always carry your memory in our hearts.
