Holt County Independent front page - Aug 19,1948 JOHN T WALKER, 81, DIES AT PAGE MONDAY; SERVICES WEDNESDAY Funeral services were held at Page, Nebraska Wed afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Methodist Church for John T Walker, 81, pioneer resident of that city. Rev T O Brownfield, pastor of the church there, had charge of the services and burial following the cemetery there. Active pallbearers were: Oscar Reed, Hal Farnsworth, Jud Russell, Lewis Bernholtz, John Lamason, Clarence Stevens, Theo Kemper, and Dick Asher. Honorary pallbearers were: Munson Stuart, John Gray, Allen Haynes, O B Stuart, Dr E J Blid, Roy Waring, Clint Townsend, and Sam Coover. Mr Walker came to the Page community in the year 1885 and had made his home there practically all the time since then. He operated a livery barn there in the early days, and in later years had imported horses for a firm in Iowa. He was interested in the real estate and insurance business and was also interested in politics, having held the office of precinct committeemen for the democrats for many years. John Taylor Walker was born at Collins, Iowa on July 23,1867 and died August 16,1948 at the age of 81 years and 23 days. He came to Page from his birthplace in 1885. On Dec 4,1893 he was united in marriage to Miss Laura Howard at Sioux City, Iowa. Six daughters were born to this couple, all of whom survive. The children are: Mrs L A Burgess, O'Neill; Mrs Henry Fowler, Enid, Oklahoma; Mrs Howard Milller, North Platte, Nebr.; Mrs Leonard Crandall, Fremont, Nebr; Mrs Eddie Bright, Orchard, Nebr; and Mrs R W Johnson of Hyannis, Nebr. Besides the children he is survived by his wife; two brothers, D W Walker of Vineland, NJ: and E A Walker of Page; and one sister, Mrs Clara Hartford of Oakland, Oregon. He is also survived by nine grandchildren.
