Bio
Merle Dwight Daharsh, age 79, passed into the Lord's presence on January 16, 2020, at Good Samaritan Society - Bonell in Greeley, CO. Merle was born May 9, 1940, to Ira and Clara (Plant) Daharsh, the eldest of seven children. His childhood was spent on a dairy farm near Elbert, Colorado, before the family moved to Woodland Park, Colorado, when he was about 11. In Woodland Park, he worked with his dad on a Hereford ranch, attended junior high and then Woodland Park High School, graduating in 1958. After high school he attended Pueblo State Junior College and Colorado State University. He was drafted into the Army at age 23 and was stationed in Okinawa for 2 years, serving as an MP prior to his honorable discharge. Accepting Jesus as Savior at age 20, Merle was committed to following Christ and became involved in The Navigators ministry while in the service. With The Navigators, he stayed on in Okinawa for two more years before coming back to the States, ministering with The Navigators in various colleges around the U.S. Loving the farm, he pursued a degree in agriculture at Oklahoma State University with a goal of being a missionary to Africa. During his time with The Navigators, Merle met and married Judith Ann Angle on June 10, 1972, in San Antonio, Texas. They soon started their family of five and lived in Pennsylvania and Georgia after moving from Texas. Merle and the family were always heavily involved in the Awana program in their church. Eventually Merle was promoted to Awana Commander. Merle's career over the years was mainly supervising construction projects, which he enjoyed. The family moved back to Colorado in 2000, and Merle soon became disabled with Parkinson's disease, which eventually caused dementia. In 2014, Merle had to be moved to Julia Temple Healthcare Center in Englewood, CO, to care for his growing needs. In July 2019, he was moved again, this time to Good Samaritan Society Bonell in Greeley, CO, where he was cared for until his death. He is survived by his wife, Judy Daharsh, three sons: John (Nancy) Daharsh, David (Becky) Daharsh and Andrew (Miriam) Daharsh, and two daughters: Kimberly (Dennis) Tweten and Rachel Daharsh, as well as 13 grandchildren. He is also survived by four sisters: Beverley (Richard) Loper, Janice (Peter) Gordon, Lynda (Jim) Beveridge, and Connie West, and one brother: Terry (Lindee) Daharsh, as well as several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and his youngest sister Kristie Jo Daharsh.
