Merl Edwin, was born to Joseph H. and Mabel R. (Peppers) near Whitman, Grant County, Nebraska. He graduated from Bingham High School, Bingham, Garden County, Nebraska. Merl joined the U.S. Navy in 1942 and served until 1944. He married Kathleen King May 26, 1944 in San Francisco, California.. They moved to Nebraska to take over the operation of Merl's father's ranch near Bingham, Garden County, Nebraska. Merl served on the District #22 school board for many years. They moved in 1974 to "Doc Alby's" subdivision on Lake McConaughy, near Lewellen, Nebraska. They lived there in the house Merl built until his death April 25, 1988. Kathleen moved to Grand Island, Hall County, Nebraska. Merl is survived by his two sons, Edward J. (Linda) Pew of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Thomas M. Pew of Lewellen, Nebraska, His two daughters Elizabeth (Betty) Hixon of Grand Island, Nebraska, and Theresa Lang of Glenvil, Nebraska, his grandsons Chad and Jeff Hixon of Grand Island, his brothers Vergel (Florence) Pew of Nampa, Idaho, Hiram Pew of Castle Rock, Colorado, sister Mamie (Steve) Foltyn of Alliance, Nebraska. He was preceded in death by his daughters Marilyn Pew and Patricia Pew, son Michael Pew, his parents, two sisters Kathern and Audrey.
