Bio

Born November 9, 1929 in Delaware County to James and Ida Lea (Cox) Loftis, James was a man that came from a very humble childhood. Many times going without the things that we today take for granted, like food, shelter and perhaps the most important, knowing you are loved. James made a decision based on past lessons learned. He was going to ensure that his family would always be cared for, as well as knowing that they were loved. On June 20, 1951, in Bentonville, Arkansas, James married the love of his life, Normia Stephens. Their marriage lasted 62 years before her death in 2013. They had four daughters, La Quotta, Lois, Ramona and Peggy. James excelled in his role as husband and father. He provided for his family working for Peabody Coal Company, as well as farming and ranching. The latter was his passion throughout his entire life. His land and cattle provided him with much enjoyment. James had an engineering mind and could build anything. He not only built a brush hog from scratch but a rock rake and cattle chute as well. He was instrumental in helping one of his daughters build three homes. Artistically talented when it came to wood working, James built many beautiful pieces of furniture; coffee tables, lamps, a grandfather clock, to name just a few. Many of those pieces of furniture are still in his home today and will be treasured by his family. God gave James the gift of kindness. He not only displayed that gift to his family but anyone that just needed a little help. When his daughters were younger and got sick, he would bring them a gift. Such as coloring books or paper dolls or even bringing a new born colt in the house when Ramona was too sick to go outside. An honest man, James was one of those that did business with a hand shake. In earlier years, James and Normia were active members of the Church of the Nazarene, where James was treasurer and Normia worked with the children. He believed that it was his biblical responsibility to leave something for his children after he and Normia were gone and he worked hard his whole life to insure that. A man that will leave a legacy of kindness and caring for others, James is survived by his daughters, LaQuotta “Coco” Haner and husband Tom, Lois Thomas and husband J.W., Ramona Loftis, Peggy Atchley and husband Gary, grandchildren, Lisa Ogden and husband Joe, Mendy Haner and Wendy Haner, Robin Horsman and husband Daniel, Tina Conner and husband Dustin, Kerry Hubbartt and husband Pat, James “Jamy” Brashers and Nick St. John, great grandchildren, Charisma, J.J., Cade, Dax, Emma, Jack, Katelyn, Brooke, Dalton, Logan, Dylan, Kayla, Micaiah, Lexi, Devin and Saige. James was preceded in death by his parents, wife of sixty two years Normia, brothers, Clyde, Guy, Otis and Floyd, sisters, Dorothy, Pearl and Norene.
