In 1910, Charley was living with his parents in Crested Butte, Colorado. Charley was married 17 Apr 1927 to Lucy Corrine Sanders. He and Corrine immigrated from Corsicana, Texas to Cascade City, British Columbia, Canada, arriving 10 Oct 1929. Charley had two enlistment dates into the U.S. Navy, one when he was only 16, again when he was 37 in the Naval Reserve. Charley first mustered in on the USS Pastores (AF 16) on 8 Jan 1942 as a Carpenter's Mate Second Class (CM2), again on 13 Feb 1942 as a Carpenter's Mate Second Class (CM2), again on 1 Aug 1942 as a Carpenter's Mate First Class (CM1). The headstone application indicates that he was a Carpenter's Mate, First Class in the U.S. Naval Reserve. His Virginia Death Certificate shows the cause of death was an accidental fall on the USS Pastores (AF 16).
