Wife of MSGT Bobby Lee Warneke US Air Force Mary Josephine Kacal Warneke was born March 12, 1929 in Taiton, Wharton County, Texas and passed away December 1, 2019 in Schertz, Texas. She was the 5th child of 11 children born to Mary Katherine Sliva & Joseph John Kacal, Sr. Her dad was a share cropper so the family moved several times around Wharton County. She left home at age 17 to live with an older sister. While working as a waitress at a downtown San Antonio diner, she met her husband of 71 years, Bobby Lee Warneke, Sr. Bobby was in the Air Force & shortly after their second child was born, the family got orders for Honolulu, Hawaii. Bobby left first & Mary, Barbara, & Bobby Jr. awaited orders in Bobby's hometown of Mt. Ida, Arkansas. This was the first time Mary had been out of Texas. She often talked about the trip from Little Rock to San Francisco by train with two little ones & pregnant with the third. She said she & Bobby Jr.were sick most of the way & she'd have to ask strangers to watch Barbara while she went to the restroom with Bobby. When they got off the train it was so cold she had to go shopping for warm clothes. When they got to Honolulu, the family stayed in guest quarters until the moved to their permanent housing. They were there only a week when Mary went into labor. They didn't have any one to leave the children with so Bobby Sr heard the news over the phone! Living in Honolulu for 4 years with 3 children under 2 1/2, Mary often told Barbara, "have your children one at a time". Mary was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Clem, Ray & Joe, sisters, Della, Evelyn & Martha, her husband, Bobby Lee Warneke, Sr. & Grandson, Zachary Ryan. She is survived by children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, siblings, other relatives and many friends.
