******************************************** Larry “Flash” L. McConnell, 71 years, of Fremont, NE died at his home on Thursday, December 14, 2017. Larry was born November 16, 1946 in South Sioux City, NE to Chet and Virginia (Fletcher) McConnell. He grew up in and around Ainsworth, NE. He graduated from Ainsworth High School in 1964. He lived for a time in Ainsworth where he met and married Beverly Welke, to this union three sons were born, Sean, Chester and Jason. He was employed at the lumber yard, then later he went ranching. While there he took up bull dogging. He once won first place at the Johnstown Rodeo. Later Larry met and married Karen Christensen. Karen brought to this marriage a young son “Colby”. Larry raised Colby as his own son. As time went he decided to move to the Fremont area where he started working for Harvey Hunke. Harvey took him under his wing and nicknamed him “Flash”, taught him the skills of being a skilled carpenter. Flash took great pride in his work, working seven days a week. He met many friends while on the job. He valued all of their friendships and considered them his family. Flash loved to fish, hunt, golf, and go air boating. He was a very caring person and will be remembered by all. He is survived by his sons and their families, Sean McConnell of Carver, MN, Chester McConnell of Falls City, NE, Jason McConnell of Arlington, TX , and Colby Christensen of Maxwell, NE; sister, Carolyn Jones of Ainsworth, NE; ten grandchildren; nephews and a large family of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Kenneth Jones. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, December 22, 2017 at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont, NE.
