AMHERST – Mary Carrie Slavik (nee: Dobson), 88 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, passed away Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at her home following a lengthy illness. She was born February 6, 1926 in Watertown, New York. Mary was raised in Buffalo, New York before moving to Lorain in 1957. She had made her home in Amherst for the last fifty-five years. Mary was a loving mother and grandmother. During World War II she worked for Dupont in New York making pneumatic targets. She was a lifetime member of the Women's Auxillary at Mercy Regional Medical Center. Mary was an avid reader and loved shopping. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and family. Survivors include her daughter Susan (Larry) Syrowski of Amherst; her estranged son Doug Slavik; grandchildren Karie (Alan Hogg) Slavik, Kelly (Steven) Slavik-Bosworth, Sandra (Jayson) Lima, Stephen Slavik, Gregory Slavik and Lauren (Rob) Pursley; her step grandchildren Elizabeth Syrowski, Daniel Syrowski and Madeline Syrowski; her great grandchildren Coral, Danny, Morgan, Jackson, McKenna, Carson, Andrew, Alex, Stephen, Chloe, Zane and Alyssa; her brother David (Pat) Dobson of Buffalo, New York; her sisters Florence Schenck of Queensbury, New York, and Ann "Butch" Burandt of Kenmore, New York; her daughter in law's Judith Slavik of Amherst, Sharon Slavik of Huron; and her sister in law Bernie Dobson of Bath, New York, and her caregiver Johnny Smallwood ' . She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-four years Gilbert L. Slavik, Sr. on May 2, 1998; her son Gilbert L. Slavik, Jr. on November 28, 2005; her brothers Clifford and William Dobson; and her parents Clifford and Anna Bertha Dobson (nee: Kovacs).
