Billy Joe Bone, 74, passed away Saturday morning, July 14, 2007, at home. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Woodbury Cemetery in Hillsboro. The family will be receiving visitors 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at OakCrest Funeral Home. Bill was born in Lorena, Texas, to the late L.B. and Myrtle Hanna (Heath) Bone. He attended Lorena schools as a youth. On June 6, 1964, he married Laquita Rue. Bill loved the Lord and had attended Cottonwood Baptist Church in Cottonwood, Texas. Bill served in the U.S. Navy from 1950 to 1954 and proudly served in the Korean War. He was always proud to fly the American flag and the Texas flag in his front yard year round and quickly replaced one when it began to show sign of wear. He believed in his country and did not take for granted its freedoms. After the death of his wife, Quita on Aug. 3, 2004, he loved and cared for their dog Trooper who was his constant companion until Trooper's death. He then got a miniature Dachshund named Punkin, who kept him busy and entertained. He kept food and water outside for the wild birds and loved to watch them. The stray cats were welcomed too as long as they left his chickens alone. He also loved to feed his chickens and had them spoiled by tossing breadcrumbs from the porch every day at their home of 13 years. He would call, they would come, and it pleased him greatly. Bill never missed a chance to call his family or friends to give them an update on his dog, the chickens, or any critter on his place. He enjoyed talking about the old days when he was a boy growing up with six smaller brothers and sisters. Blue was his favorite color. His parents made him quit school at an early age to help support the family they had. He was never bitter about this and always said, "It was just the way it was". He was preceded in death by his brother, Bill. Survivors include his daughter, Donna R. Thorne and husband, Ronnie, of Lorena; sons, Burgess George Cole, III and wife, Carole, of Austin and Tom Dee Cole and wife, Pam, of Wichita Falls; grandchildren, Robert Andrew "Andy" Thorne, of Rosenthal, Tommy Dee Cole, of Carrolton, Amanda Cole, of Wichita Falls, Jennifer Mierl and husband, Seth, of Cedar Park, Caitlin Farley, of Austin and Rebecca Cole, of Houston; brothers, Glen Bone and wife, Linda, of McGregor, Fred Bone, of Waco, Kenneth Bone and wife, Gail, of Richardson; and sisters, Betty Murdoch and husband, Gail, of Olgebesy and Shirley Owens and husband, Bill, near Lake Livingston; his "coffee-drinking friends at the Bruceville-Eddy Café and Brookshire Brothers in Lorena; and by many wonderful friends, including John, Larry, and Ron, and a host of good neighbors.
