Bio
Larry Louis Kliment was born on May 29, 1946 in Atkinson, NE to Louis and Lillian (Vavak) Kliment. He was the oldest of 5 children and was born on the family farm. Larry lived on the farm for his entire life, with the exception of nearly three years that he spent in the US Army Corp of Engineers. On March 3, 1973, Larry was married to Kathleen (Kathy) Torpy. To this union, three daughters were born. Larry was devoted to his family, always including his wife and kids in his activities. Checking the systems in the evening was always a family event. In more recent years, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Larry was inquisitive and approached many problems with an engineer’s mind. He picked up many items at auctions and redesigned them into unique objects. Larry viewed a mistake as an opportunity to learn something new. He always put forth his best effort and appreciated others doing the same. Larry’s intelligence, kindness, honesty, level-headedness, and work ethic guided him throughout his life. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to family, friends, or neighbors. Many organizations benefitted from Larry’s common-sense approach. Larry was a board member for ASCS, REA, and School District 102. He was a long-time KC member and an American Legion member serving as Post 86 and Holt County Commander. Larry held a Private Pilot’s License. Larry passed away at the age of 73 at the West Holt Memorial Hospital on August 30, 2019. Larry is survived by wife Kathy, daughter Karen and husband Aaron Thompson, daughter Linda and husband Eddie Irani, daughter Rhonda and husband Matt Ketteler, grandchildren Mitchell, Claire, and Marshall Thompson and Nathaniel and Catarina Ketteler, sisters Sharon Sullivan and husband Gary, Jeanette Weller and husband Roger, and Susan Myers and husband Jerry, sister-in-law Janet Garwood Kliment, 13 other brothers- and sisters-in-law, and 25 nieces and nephews. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Lillian Kliment, brother Dennis Kliment, sister-in-law Jeanette (Wasson) Kliment, niece Laura (Kliment) Martinson, and sister-in-law Diane (Schramm) Torpy.
