Johnnie Hejl passed away Saturday, May 6, 2006 at a rest home in Temple. Family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, May 8, 2006, at Providence Funeral Home. Celebration of Life Services will be 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 9, 2006 at Providence Funeral Home with Pastor David Tietz officiating. Burial will follow at the Taylor City Cemetery. Johnnie was born on December 22, 1912, in Thrall, Texas, to Henry W. and Helen (Koneschik) Hejl. He worked as a carpenter for the Schroeder Brothers for thirty eight years. Johnnie served in the U.S. Army during World War II with duty in Guadacanal, Northern Solomons, and Luzon. He was in Military occupation Assistant Gunner Light Mortar 607 in Military qualifications combat infantry. He received many Badge Decorations and Citations which included: Asiatic - Pacific Campaign Medal with three Bronze Stars; Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star; and Good Conduct Medal. In November 18, 1950 he married Lorena Brinkmeyer Hehman. Johnnie loved to work in his garden and to play dominoes. He is survived by his wife, Lorena Hejl of Taylor; one step-daughter, Florene McCormick and husband, Paul of Austin; one step-granddaughter, Jennifer Lynn Boedeker and husband, David of Katy; step-great grandson, Joshua Boedeker of Katy; step-great granddaughter, Catherine Boedeker of Katy; one sister, Ruby Stanley of Austin. Johnnie was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters, Lydia Fipps and Elsie Shiller. Pallbearers will be Curtis Hehman, Roy Brinkmeyer, James Fipps, Oscar Raesz, Mitchell Scott, and Robert Raesz. Honorary pallbearers will be David Boedeker and Paul McCormick. Memorial may be made to Gay Lynn Brinkmeyer Scholarship Fund or to the St. Paul Lutheran Church.
