Bio
O. L. 'LEE' CANTRELL, 87, of Lewisville and formerly of Ranger, passed away on August 31, 2002 at a Lewisville hospital. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery. Mr. Cantrell was born on May 18, 1915 in Ferris, Texas to Ruth (Wright) and John Cantrell. He married Sarah Jane Browder on October 29, 1933 and she preceded him in death in 1981. He then married Ruth McKenzie and she preceded him in death in 1993. Mr. Cantrell moved to Ranger in 1941 and along with his wife, Sarah, owned and operated the Cantrell Texaco Station and the El Rancho Motel. Mr. Cantrell was also employed with the Texas Pipeline Company, now known as Texaco Company, for 20 years. He was very active in the Ranger community serving as Water, Street, Finance, and Police Commissioner, as well as serving on the Ranger City Council, two terms as Mayor, Board of Regents at Ranger College, Hospital Board at Ranger General Hospital, Chamber of Commerce Board Member, and voted Outstanding Citizen of the Year. Mr. Cantrell was a 32nd degree Mason AF & AM Ranger Lodge #738 and a Shriner. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Ranger. Survivors at the time of his death include two sons, Jimmy and wife, Martha (RHS-1954), of Sugarland and Jerry and wife, Jane, of Sherman; one daughter, Diana and husband, John Henderson of Lewisville; wife, Sara Kirpatrick Cantrell of Arlington; six grandchildren, Sheryl Adamcik and husband, Steve, of Houston, Brian Cantrell and wife, Kelley of Katy, TX, Jeff Cantrell and wife, Carolyn, of Frisco, TX, Jerel Cantrell and wife, Suzanna, of KcKinney, TX, Mark Henderson and wife, Trish, of Corinth, TX, Michael Henderson of Plano, TX; and 12 great-grandchildren. Mr. Cantrell was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ruth (Wright) Cantrell; wife Sarah Jane; and wife Ruth McKenzie.
