Barbara A. "Purdy" Sumpter, 83, of Higbee, Missouri, passed away on Friday, October 25, 2019, at her home. Barbara was born February 28, 1936, to Wilbur L. and Mary June (Pitney) Purdy in Higbee, Missouri. She was a homemaker who loved cooking and was a fabulous cook, as well as a fantastic candy maker. She enjoyed reading and going to the casino. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herschell Sumpter; sons: Harold Sumpter and Brian Sumpter; and one sister. Survivors include her son, Randy Sumpter of Moberly, Missouri; daughters: Edith Buckman of Huntsville, Missouri and Brenda (Hugo) Maldonado of Higbee, Missouri; sister, Shirley Dicken of Omaha, Nebraska; 7 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; and 2 great- great grandchildren. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, October 29, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at the Tucker Cemetery under the direction of Million Taylor Funeral Home.
