Bio

Son of Morgen E. and Julia Ann (Parham) McCaskey. His last name was originally Mikesa, which evolved to McCaskey. ---------------------- Dr. Gregory Morgen McCaskey was born July 12, 1922 in Dallas, Texas to Julia Ann Parham and Morgen Emil Mikeska. He was a graduate of the Catholic Seminary in Denver, Colorado. After spending three years in the Air Force during WWII, where he was shot down in 1944, he entered the St. Louis School of Medicine. He interned at Santa Rosa Hospital San Antonio in 1951, followed by a residency at the Veteran's Hospital, Houston. He specialized in family medicine and started his practice in 1953. Greg was a dedicated physician with memberships in the American Medical Society, Texas Medical Association, the Board of Family Practice and a fellow with the American Allergy College. He married Mary L. Matthews in February, 1952. Together in marriage they reared five children: Betty Dilger (Joseph), Martha Bosworth (Leland), Neil McCaskey (Lisa), Ruth Woolsey (Richard) and Morgen McCaskey (Elaine). His life was enriched by his sixteen grandchildren. He is survived by his sister Rose Mary M. Velez of Mexico City. Along with his vast medical practice, Greg was dedicated to serving his church and community. He was a Eucharistic minister for St. Pius X Catholic Church, president of the Serra Club, an outreach director for the St. Vincent De Paul Society and a member of the Baza Caravan #78 Alhambra. After retirement, he was a volunteer physician for the American Medical Association serving in South Dakota, Arizona and Nevada for the Indian Health Service. He spent many fulfilling years as a member of the Rotary Club and its bowling team. His commitment to the diocese as a pre-marital counselor gave him many opportunities to help nurture marriage relationships. With his wife Mary, they were long time member of Holy Family Guild. His greatest pleasures in life were his family, golf and bridge with his lifelong friends. Visitation will be held at Seaside Funeral Home on Sunday, May 9, 2004 with a Rosary to be recited that evening. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Pius X Catholic Church on Monday, May 10, 2004.
