2 Killed as Car-Train Collide at Stephenville STEPHENVILLE (Spl) - Two persons were killed in a car-train collision at the Lillian Street crossing here about 3:10 p.m. Wednesday. Killed were John Wesley Foster, 22, of Abilene, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert D. Foster, and Beverly Ann Barnes, 16, of De Leon, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Barnes. Peace Justice S. W. Miller pronounced them dead at the scene. The northbound Santa Fe local struck the car with the left front of the diesel, picked it up, bending the left catwalk and tossing the car about 100 yards. The two occupants were thrown from the vehicle. Engineer W. W. Jarrett, 55, of Brownwood, said the train was traveling about 35 m.p.h. The train of six cars and a caboose stopped about 100 yards from the car. Besides her parents, Miss Barnes is also survived by a brother, Terry Barnes of Weatherford. Funeral arrangements were pending at Higginbotham Funeral Home in De Leon. Foster is survived by his parents, two brothers and a sister. Fort Worth Star-Telegram Fort Worth, Texas • Thursday, June 17, 1971 —————————————————————————— STEPHENVILLE - A car-train collisien here Wednesday at 2:10 p.m. killed John Wesley Poster, 22, of Abillene, and Beverly Ann Barnes, 16, of De Leon. Both were pronounced dead at the scene, inside the city limits of Stephenville, by Justice of the Peace S. W. Miller. According to Stephenville police, the car, belonging to Miss Barnes, was traveling south on Lillan St. when it was in a collision with an east-bound Santa Fe train on the west side of town. The couple was thrown from the car, which was pushed 345 feet down the track. Funeral services for Foster will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Elliott's Chapel of Memories, with the Rev. Bobby Danley, pastor of the Hodges Baptist Church officiating: Burial will be in the Cedar Hill Cemetery. Mr. Foster was born May 22 1949, in Stamford. He moved to Carlabad, N.M., when a young boy and came to Abilene in 1965. He was a member of the Hodges Baptist Church and a graduate of Abilene High School. He had been employed as a physical therapist at Hendrick Memorial Hospital for the last two years. Survivors are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. D. Foster of 1336 Grape: two brothers, Robert Derrell Foster of Carrollton and Hershel Glenn Foster of Carlsbad; one sister, Mrs. Patricia Long of 1336 Grape; maternal grandmother, Mrs. Minnie Gilchrest of De Leon: paternal grandmother, Mrs. Cora Foster of 1401 Green; and several nieces and nephews. SERVICES FOR Miss Barnes are pending at Higginbotham Funeral Home In De Leon. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs W. T. Bames ef De Leon, and a sophomore at De Leon High School, She was a member of the First Baptist Church at De Leon an had lived in the towm all ot her life. Survived by her parents: and a brother, Terry Barnes of Weatherford.
