The Monitor-Press Wellington, Kansas Wednesday, January 10, 1923 page 4 Deaths Leonard: - Mrs. Dorothy Winchell Leonard died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. S.A. McKowan, in this city at 3 o'clock Sunday morning, January 7th, at the advanced age of 90 years, five months and six days. The deceased was born (Winchell) in Licking county, Ohio, August 11, 1832. Her early life was spent in that state and on September 5, 1852, she was married to Elias Brown. To their union eight children were born, five of whom have preceded the mother in death. The family moved from Indiana to Westerville, Iowa, where the husband and father died July 9, 1887. In June 1892, she was again married, to Herrod Leonard, with whom she came in 1900 to this county, settling on a farm wets of this city, where Mr. Leonard died in 1905. The widow then went to live with her son, Ara Brown, southwest of this city, where she remained until her son's death December 16, 1920, since which time she has been with her daughter, Mrs. S.A. McKowan, in this city. She leaves to mourn her loss three children, Mrs. Joseph McConnell, Yates Center, Kansas; Mrs. S.A. McKowan, Wellington, and John Brown, Grand River, Iowa: one sister, Mrs. Orleana Davis of this city, and a brother, John Winchell, Blair, Nebraska, with twenty-two grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends. The funeral took place from the Frank Undertaking parlors at 2:30 o'clock Monday afternoon, Rev. J.E. Coe officiating. Burial was in Prairie Lawn cemetery. (transcribed by Judy Mayfield)
