Bio
Don L. Brooks, 82, Sands Drive, Hopkinsville, died Thursday, Sept. 19, 2019, at Hermitage Care & Rehabilitation Center in Owensboro, Kentucky, of natural causes. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 23, 2019, at Lamb Funeral Home with the Rev. David Tucker officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will be from noon until the service hour on Monday, Sept. 23, 2019, at the funeral home. A native of California, he was born Dec. 31, 1936, the son of the late John Orville Brooks and Gertie Lee Spencer Brooks. He was in the United States Army, where he served during the Korean War and received a Bronze Star. He was past president of the Civitan International Club. He also was a truck driver and an insurance adjuster. He was a member of Second Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Geneva Brooks; his stepsons, David Terry Midkiff and Bruce Warren Midkiff; his brother, Johnny Clifford Brooks; his sisters, Ruth Ileen Brooks and Sharon Kay Brooks. Survivors include his daughter-in-law, Sandra Midkiff, Owensboro; two grandchildren, Tobias Midkiff and Stormy Burke; seven great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. --Kentucky New Era (Hopkinsville, Kentucky) • Saturday, September 21, 2019; Page A2.
