James M. Uhl October 6, 1949 - September 13, 2019 Obituary for James M. Uhl James Marion “Max” Uhl was born October 6, 1949 in Sioux City, Iowa the son of Warren and Adeline Uhl. He was raised in Cherokee, Iowa and graduated from Catholic High School. James worked in a meat packing plant in Storm Lake for a few years. He married Lizette Schmidt on July 10, 1982 in Oldwick, New Jersey. To this union two children, Jessica and Charlie were born. The couple lived in New Jersey for a few years and James attended gemology school. James and Liz eventually moved to Knoxville, Iowa and James took a job with Joseph’s Jewelers in Des Moines. He retired from Joseph’s in 2013. In his spare time, James enjoyed playing bejeweled and most importantly spending time with his family whom he cherished. James passed away Friday, September 13, 2019 at the Taylor House, in Des Moines, at the age of 69 years. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Liz on December 25, 2012. Those left to cherish James’ memory include his children, Jessica of Urbandale and Charlie of Knoxville; his brother, Dan Uhl of Oklahoma; his dear friend and companion, Cheryl Murphy of Pleasantville and many other family members and friends.
