Grand Island (Nebraska) Daily Independent July 1990 John T. "Brit" Brittain Jr. 67, of .... died Tuesday, July 10 at St. Francis Medical Cemetery. Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday from Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. The Rev. Stephen Deaver sill officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be ...at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home... Mr. Brittain was born at St. Paul on March 17, 1923 to John and Eda Wisbaum Brittain. He grew up and received his education at St. Paul, graduating from high school there in 1941. After graduation he went to work for Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. in Norfolk. He was drafted in the U.S. Army in 1942 and served in the China-Burma area for 26 months in the Army Corp of Engineers. After his discharge he went to work for a few months for the REA. He married Erma Nielsen at Dannebrog in 1946. they made their home in Grand Island. In 1947 he resumed his job with Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. and retired in 1980 with 36 1/2 years of service....(active in many social and service organizations.) Survivors include his wife, Erma of Grand Island; three children, James Brittain of Hagerstown, Md.; Mrs. Fred (Lou Anne) Glover and Theresa M. Brittain, both of Grand Island;...five stepsisters, Elaine Herdt and Barbara Eastman, both of Giltner, Margaret Beberniss of Chapman, Dorothy Hamness of Lake Oswego, Ore. and Arlene Reiner of North Platte. He was preceded in death by his parents, his stepmother, one-step brother and one step-sister.
