Burnetta O. Kratky of Columbus died Saturday, August 31, 2019 in Columbus. Mass of Christian Burial is 11:00 Friday, September 6, 2019 at St. Isidore Catholic Church with the Rev. Michael Swanton officiating. Visitation is on Thursday from 5:00-7:00 pm with a 7:00 pm Vigil Service at McKown Funeral Home. Visitation continues on Friday morning from 10:00-11:00 am at St. Isidore Church. Interment is in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Burnetta O. “Burnie” Kratky was born May 9, 1929 in Beatrice, NE to Wilbur and Alice (VanBuskirk) Yarger. She graduated from Beatrice High School in 1947. She married Joseph C. Kratky on January 18, 1952 in Beatrice. The couple made their home in Columbus where Burnie worked for the telephone company and at the Girl Scout office. She mostly enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Burnie and Joe were regulars at Glur’s Tavern on Thursday nights for cheeseburgers and on Sunday’s at the Cheloha home for dinner. Following dinner, they would go to Sunday dances in the local communities. Burnie also loved reading having read over 3,000 books in her retirement. She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing, crafting, making quilts and baking. Burnie was a member of St. Bonaventure Church, Ladies of the Lord, Perpetual Adoration, Perky Deb’s Extension Club since 1959, Tripoly Card Club, Bridge Club, Dance Club, Calico Quilt Club, and Meals on Wheels. Burnie enjoyed swimming and taught classes at the Aquatic Center. She is survived by: Daughter: Patricia (Rick) Cheloha of Yankton, SD Grandchildren: Abby (Jason) Shiffermiller of Omaha, Kelly (Andrew) Petersen of Doniphan, NE, Kate (Derek) Thomas of Lincoln, NE, and Bradley Cheloha of Columbus. Great Grandchildren: Revere and Mazlow Thomas, Liam and Elijah Petersen, and Arthur and Edith Shiffermiller She is preceded in death by: Parents Husband: Joseph Kratky Son: John Kratky Sister: Jeanette Moore Brother: Lamont Yarger The family will be gathering this week at Burnie's home, 820 Becton Street.
