Bio

Our mother, Lois Marie Romney Devey, 77, passed away after a long battle with cancer and pneumonia on May 5, 2000. She was born May 13, 1922, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Lois Trenam Romney and Carl Fredrick Romney. Marie has al-ways been committed to the education and welfare of children. She spent many hours both as a volunteer and aide at Copperview Elementary School, helping the children learn to read. PTA President at Copperview from 1963-1965, she was recognized for her contributions to the children. Marie participated in the foster grandparent program for disadvantaged children in Midvale. She loved the children in the Primary of the Midvale 8th Ward, serving as secretary for a number of years. As long as her health permitted, she was a visiting teacher and active in all Relief Society activities. Marie loved good music and books and she crocheted beautifully, sharing her talent by making afghans for her grandchildren. When her eyesight failed, she listened to books on tape which she enjoyed immensely.Marie is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wallace Devey; and sweet dog, Molly. During Wallace's long illness, prior to his death, Marie provided him diligent and loving care. They were married 55 years. Marie is survived by daughters, Cathie (Garth) Winegar, Midvale, UT, Louise Bown, Sandy, UT, Karen Stokes, Midvale, UT; brothers, Carl F. Romney (Barbara), Arlington, VA, Robert F. Romney (Jean) Hurricane, UT, William K. Romney (Joan) Ogden, UT; sister, Janet L. Lees (Taylor) Kirkland, WA; 16 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. Services will be at the Midvale 8th Ward, 8350 So. Jackson Street (225 West), Midvale, 1 p.m. Monday May 8th. Friends and family may visit at the church Sunday May 7th, 6-8 p.m. and Monday one hour prior to services.
