Bio

Vera Alvena Pocock, 93, passed to the other side February 4, 2023, at her family Bosque County, Texas, ranch and in the presence of her son, niece and her beloved labradors. Celebration of Life: 2PM Saturday, February 18, 2023 at Lake Shore Funeral Home, Waco, Texas. Potluck to honor her will be at 12:30. Born January 5, 1930, on that same farm, Vera Alvena Prause was the third daughter of James Light Prause and Vera Earl Prause. She attended school in China Spring, Texas, and graduated from Waco High School in 1948. Alvena, as she was more commonly known, then attended 4C Business College in Waco and a Waco area beauty school. In 1950, Alvena married Ross Fisher Trull, a Baylor basketball player, WWII veteran and accountant, then raised two beautiful children in the China Spring area. In 1963, Alvena met her second husband, aerobatic pilot and Royal Air Force veteran, Nicholas Pocock, while he was flying air shows in Texas. Alvena is arguably best known as an artist, where her rural landscape paintings can be found on display throughout Texas. Writing was also a huge passion where she authored several books and worked as a newspaper writer at the Waco Citizen. Alvena was an avid rancher, architect and builder. She designed houses and personally constructed numerous cabins, barns, add-ons and concrete structures. She raised Herefords on her ranch and was heavily involved in the American Wild Mustang and Burro Association where she wrote the monthly publication, and personally adopted and broke in mustangs relocated from Utah. Alvena enjoyed an almost sixty year involvement in the aviation community, starting from when she first rode on the top wing of a Stearman stunt biplane in 1964 for a TV commercial. She accompanied her husband to countless fly-ins, air shows and plane trips throughout the US and UK and was instrumental in designing the current airport and hanger in the Waco area where she resided. She is preceded in death by her husbands; son, Terry Trull; daughter, Alicia Pocock Lucas and grandson, Shane Alexander Lindsey. Alvena is survived by her brother, David Prause; sister, Gloria Helleson; daughter, Neva Casey; son, Stephen Pocock; grandson, Micah Willingham; granddaughter, Alexa Lucas; three great grandsons, Damon, Devon and Darion, and one great granddaughter, Tabitha.
