Bio

Jose 'Joe' Leanos, Jr., son of the late Jose Leanos Sr. and the late Catalina (DeLeon) Leanos, was born on February 8, 1937 in Dallas, Texas. He passed away on August 26, 2019 in Dallas, Texas. Devoted and beloved husband of Amada "Molly" Leanos. Loving father of Joseph Edward Leanos and of Esther Leanos Rangel and husband, Miguel Carlos Rangel. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Teresita Leanos; cherished by his 3 grandchildren: Lauren Alessandra, Kristen Teresa and Jacqueline Carmela; dear brother to Cathy "Cookie" Humphrey, wife of Victor Humphrey; and to the late Olivia Alaw; and, numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and many, many friends. Jose attended his first 3 years of high school at Mount Carmel Seminary, until his senior year when he attended and graduated from W.H. Adamson High School, in Dallas, in 1957. Joe attended the University of Dallas. He was drafted to serve in the Army and was stationed in Germany. After being honorably discharged, he served in the Army Reserves. His work career was with Texas Instruments, John Hancock Insurance and Yellow Freight, from which he retired after 30 years. He married the love of his life, Amada 'Molly' Leanos on October 6, 1963 and celebrated almost 56 years together. Joe was a man who had a deep love for both his Catholic faith and his country. He was brave enough to stand up for what he believed. He loved his family and friends, very much. His granddaughters were the apple of his eyes. He was proud to be an active member of the City of Dallas Volunteers in Patrol and a member of (C.E.R.T.)-Citizens Emergency Response Team; his pastimes used to be hunting and volunteering, as a Boy Scout assistant, where he proudly watched his son earn his Eagle Scout award. He loved to listen to classical music, watching John Wayne movies and enjoyed geography and history; enjoyed spending time with his McDonald's (R.O.M.E.O. group) 'Retired Old Men Eating Out' friends; enjoyed hosting 4th of July Celebrations with his family and friends; looked forward to getting together with his Sunday Breakfast Club of friends each Sunday; Joe never met a stranger. Some took him seriously, however, he always made us laugh. He was kind and sentimental, more than many will ever know. He will be dearly and forever missed. Some of the things we often heard were "go to mass every week", "God and family first", "keep in touch with each other", "I Love you", "Love one another", "Take care of your health", "Take care of one another", "Forgive one another" and recently wrote "in youth we learn, in old age we understand." Thank you to the many family members and dear friends who have always supported, loved and prayed for our family.
