MARRIED Jan 31, 1942. ∼ Source: Daily Ardmoreite, Ardmore, Oklahoma Services for Elijah Lewis Morris will be at 1 p.m. today at First Baptist Church with Dr. Alton Fannin and the Rev. Monty Baggett officiating. Morris died March 15, 1999, in the local hospital. He was born April 21, 1918, at Loco, to Obd and Bessie Head Morris. A lifetime resident of this area, he served with the Army during World War II in Japan and was employed by Total Pipeline Co. 32 years before he retired. He became a member of First Baptist Church in 1989 after moving here from Ringling where he was a deacon and teacher at the Ringling Baptist Church. He and Mildred Cantwell were married Jan. 31, 1942, in Ringling. Survivors include his wife, of the home; a daughter, Mavis Reynolds, Ardmore; a son, Don, Purcell; two brothers, Joe, Muskogee, and George, Ardmore; four grandchildren; and two great-grandsons. He was preceded in death by a brother, Clarence. Bearers will be Buck Cantrell, Bill Miller, Wayne Waggoner, Freeman Blankenship, John DeHart and Glen Vanway. Honorary bearers are Worth Sunday school class members and Total Oil Co. retirees. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church building fund or American Heart Association. Craddock Funeral Home will direct services.
