Bio

Gene Klanecky passed away peacefully on August 19, 2019 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Gene was born on July 17, 1948 in Ord, Nebraska to Adolf and Mary (Elsik) Klanecky. Gene often recalled life on the farm and told of memories milking cows and farming the corn fields. He finished his schooling and drove truck for his uncle before joining the Air Force in 1968. He was stationed in Great Falls, Montana. That same year, he met his wife, Linda Riesland. They were married on August 1, 1970 at St. Peters in Anaconda. Gene remained with the military being stationed in Korea and Arkansas before being discharged in 1972. Gene fell in love with the mountains of Montana and returned to live in Anaconda with Linda and their first son Scott in 1972. They welcomed another baby boy, Chad and remained in Anaconda to raise their sons. Gene befriended many Anaconda residents while employed as a postal carrier for the US Postal Service. When not at work, Gene enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping with his father-in-law Bud Riesland, sons, Scott and Chad, and grandson Peyton. One of Gene’s fondest memories was being with his grandson for his first elk. Gene was a regular at all Anaconda sporting events when it came to his grandchildren and was always eager to boast of any of their accomplishments. Gene is preceded in death by his parents Adolf and Mary Klanecky, and father and mother-in-law, Bud and Darlene Riesland. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Linda, sons Scott Klanecky and Chad (Christine) Klanecky, grandchildren, Peyton, Gracey, and Gavin, sister-in-law, Kay (Joe) Darlington, and brother-in-law, Randy Riesland, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Anaconda Pintler Hospice, 118 E. 7th St., Ste. 1A, Anaconda, MT 59711 or the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, 5705 Grant Creek Rd, Missoula, MT 59808. Celebration of Life Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 24, 2019 at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Anaconda. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the services at the church. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery.
