Bio

Funeral services for Mrs. Margie Ruth Martin will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Wednesday, July 17, 2019, in the Chapel of Rush Funeral Home, Pineville, with Reverend Roger George officiating. Interment will follow in Flatwoods Cemetery, Flatwoods, under the direction of Rush Funeral Home, Pineville. Mrs. Martin, 88, of Mora, entered eternal rest on Saturday, July 13, 2019, at Matthews Memorial Nursing Home, Alexandria, LA. She was a native of Flatwoods and a longtime resident of Mora. She worked as a ward clerk for Cabrini Hospital for many years and retired as a secretary from T. L. James Timber Company. She was also a volunteer firefighter and an EMS Tech with Flatwoods Fire Department and a substitute teacher at Northwood High School. Her hobbies included painting, quilting, cooking and baking. She was a member of Spanish Branch Baptist Church and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. She is preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Azilie Edwards; her loving husband of over sixty years, Alton Martin; three brothers, L.D. Edwards, L.T. Edwards and L.E. Edwards; five sisters, Una V. White, Ethel Edwards, Jessie Lee Eznack, Juanita Manning and Mellonee Ramsey; and one son-in-law, Jack Bowden. Those left to mourn her loss and cherish her memory include three daughters, Patsy Basco and her husband, Junior, of Alexandria, Sue Bowden, of Denham Springs and Gay Lawing, of Gardner; one sister, Rose Clayton, of Charleston, S.C.; two sisters-in-law, Essie Martin, of Simpson and Betty Edwards, of Alexandria; nine grandchildren, twenty-eight great grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren. Friends may call at Rush Funeral Home, Pineville, on Wednesday, July 17, 2019, from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Pallbearers honored to serve are: Calvin Bowden, Charles Bowden, Aaron Lawing, Daryn Chabot, Taylor Bowden and Trey Schexnayder. Honorary pallbearers will be her great grandsons.
