Bio
Oliver George Cox, who fills the responsible position of day watchman of the great reservoir which supplies the citizens of St. Joseph with their water supply, was born in England, August 12, 1859, and is the son of George Cox. Mr. Cox was reared on a farm until he came to the United States, in 1879. He took up farming in Jefferson County, Wisconsin, for a short time, and then went to South Dakota. There he raised wheat for eight years and then went to Oregon, continuing his agricultural life. Mr. Cox has been a resident of St. Joseph, Buchanan County, Missouri for 39 years before his death in 1933. Mr. Cox Married Isabel Chambers in Hazel, South Dakota in 1884. Isabel came to the United States in 1869 three years after her birth in September 11, 1866. They had 12 children Richard, Olive, Louise, William, Robert, Isabel, Alice, Charles, Florence, Harold, Mabel and a little Stillborn Girl in 1902 who was buried on the Lewis farm now know as Green Valley Cemetery. Out of all his kids Florence lived to be a 102 years old before she past in 2002. Mr. Cox worked at the water plant for 33 years. His main job there was the grounds. They say it looked like a great park. He also was the superintendent over all. I would like to say that I like my father and his two brothers will follow in his steps sort of. We work with water too. We clean and repair swimming pools for a living but we lack the green thumb. Therefore Water must run in the Blood. So like my Great Great Grandfather I will keep working with the great water.
