Patricia Anne Riley DECEMBER 23, 1930 – JULY 8, 2019 Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home Former Pasadena City Council member Patricia Riley was killed Monday when she was hit by a truck at Macroplaza Mall, authorities said. She was 88. The driver of a white Chevrolet struck Riley around 10:50 a.m. in the mall parking lot as she was leaving the Palais Royal department store, not far from City Hall. She was airlifted to Memorial Hermann Hospital, where she died, according to a Pasadena Police Department news release. Riley, a longtime resident of Pasadena, served as District E's council member from 1991 to 1999. She served as mayor pro tem from 1998 to 1999, and ran again for the council in 2009 and in 2015. She was a fixture at City Hall, where she regularly attended council meetings even after leaving the council. "Every council meeting since I've been mayor, even when I was on council, she'd make them," Mayor Jeff Wagner told KPRC, adding that as a council member Riley was "very active and involved in everything you can imagine." Wagner said he saw the accident but didn't know Riley had been struck. "As soon as we left City Hall to go to a luncheon, we got the word that it was Pat Riley and just thinking about I saw her laying there, it really just touched me. In fact when I called my wife and told her, both of us were in tears," Wagner told the news station. A 1947 graduate of Pasadena High School, Riley worked as a court clerk in Harris County before retiring. She later served as a part-time teacher's aide with the Pasadena ISD. Riley was an active member of the Pasadena Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association. Other groups she had been involved in included the Pasadena Historical Society, the Grandmothers Club of Pasadena, and the San Jacinto Day Foundation. She was a mother of two, a grandmother and a great-grandmother. No charges have been filed but an investigation is still ongoing. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Riley family as we all mourn the loss of such an integral part of our city's history," city officials said in the release.
