Bio

Richard Anthony Zrostlik, 75, of Shell Rock, passed away Friday, October 7, 2016, at Unity Point-Allen Hospital in Waterloo. He was born July 28, 1941, in Britt, Iowa, the son of Sylvester and Magda (Egts) Zrostlik. Richard graduated from Woden High School in Woden, Iowa in 1959. He began working at John Deere in Waterloo in 1960. On November 9, 1963, he was united in marriage to Joanne Roberts in Buffalo Center, Iowa. Along with his work at John Deere, he farmed outside of Shell Rock for 28 years. On December 31, 1996, he retired from John Deere after 36 years of service. Richard was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Waverly. He enjoyed time with family and friends, camping, fishing, riding motorcycle, wood working and taking road trips. He thoroughly enjoyed the winters he and Joanne spent in Alamo, Texas. He had a special place in his heart for his grandchildren, whom he taught the 'farmer wave' and was the first to introduce each of them to ice cream. Richard is survived by his wife, Joanne of Shell Rock, two sons; Michael (Deborah) Zrostlik of Royal Air Force, Lakenheath, United Kingdom and Rick (Julie) Zrostlik of Nevada, Iowa, two daughters; Dianne (David) Suntken of Ames, Iowa and Leanne (Steve) Williams of Ankeny, Iowa, six grandchildren; Taylor and Regan Suntken, Gwendolyn and Charlotte Zrostlik, Connor and Ava Williams, three step-grandchildren; Jonathon and Ryan Steele, Suzanne Simmons, and one step-great-granddaughter Maggie Simmons, two brothers; Robert (Jackie) Zrostlik of Waterloo and Jim (Ju) Zrostlik of South Korea, three sisters; Joan (Frank) Enriquez of Des Moines, Janice (Bob) Bell of Johnston and Betty (Harris) Harms of Burt, Iowa, and his mother-in-law, Viola Roberts of Fertile, Iowa. He is preceded in death by his parents and his father-in-law, Forrest Roberts. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 12, 2016, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Waverly with Father David Schatz officiating. Burial will follow in the Harlington Cemetery, Waverly. Visitation will be on Tuesday, October 11, 2016, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. with a 7 p.m. Scripture Service at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly. Memorials may be directed to the family.
