Bio

Ray Schultz, 78, of Amarillo, died Sunday, Dec. 23, 2001. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Polk Street United Methodist Church with the Rev. Marty Hamrick, associate pastor, officiating. Entombment will precede the service in Llano Cemetery Mausoleum. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mr. Schultz, a native of Nebraska, was born Feb. 11, 1923. He graduated from high school in Clarks, Neb., and received bachelor's and master's degrees from West Texas State University. He married Charlotte Beth Henderson in 1945. She died in 1986. He married Bobby Willoughby in 1989. He served in the Air Force from 1942 to 1945. He began his teaching career in Canyon in 1948. He served as business administrator in Canyon, Dumas, Hurst-Euless-Bedford and was superintendent in White Deer and Olton during his 33-year career in education. He was active in Texas State Teachers Association, serving as district president in 1961. He held life memberships in Texas Association of School Business Officials, National Education Association, Texas Association of School Administrators and Texas State Teachers Association. While at Hurst-Euless-Bedford, First District Texas Congress of Parents and Teachers awarded him an honorary life membership in Texas Congress of Parents and Teachers, which is the highest honor a PTA can bestow. He was a member of Lions Clubs in Dumas, Amarillo, Olton and in White Deer where he served as president in 1963-64. He was a member of Polk Street United Methodist Church and Masonic Lodge. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Wes Schultz of Amarillo and Joe Schultz of Weatherford; a daughter, Kay Mount of Reno, Nev.; a sister, Irene Schultz of Clarks, Neb.; two grandchildren, Matthew Schultz and Stephenie Schultz, both of Weatherford; a stepdaughter, Jane Dobervich of Tyler; a stepson, Larry Willoughby of Austin; and two stepgrandsons, Dustin Dobervich and Derek Dobervich, both of Tyler. The family suggests memorials be to Polk Street United Methodist Church or a favorite charity. The body will be available for viewing from 2 to 4 p.m. today at the funeral home.
