John born to Ted and Mary (Czaplewski) Golka, John moved to Omaha with his parents and family during the dustbowl years. An Omaha South graduate, he joined the United State Air Force in 1952. John served his country for 35 years, and achieved the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. During his military career, he held a variety of positions. He started in radio maintenance, and during his final assignment at MacDill AFB, Tampa, FL, he was a member of the F-16 ready team, he served as the base Sergeant Major and he was the executive support NCO for the base commander. Throughout his career, he served overseas in Japan, Korea, Spain and England. During the Vietnam War, John was the avionics launch chief for the AC-130 Specter Gunship in Thailand. John was a devote Catholic who loved his family. During his final years in Lincoln, he attended St. Joseph's Catholic Church. John married Jeanette (Talley) in 1959.
