Born in the village of Horka, town of Vlasim, county of Tabor, Bohemia, Austrian Empire (now in the Czech Republic). Married (2) Mrs. Josephine Winther on June 16, 1909 at South Omaha, Nebr. by a Justice of the Peace (Douglas County Marriage Records, Vol. 32, p. 159, license #23054). The marriage record names his parents as Josef Jakl and Mary Jondacek. 1870 census (Township 17 R5, Saunders County, Nebr.): Jos. Jackel (age 34, blacksmith, born Bohemia), Barbary (31, keeps house, Bohemia), Fanny (7, Bohemia), Mary (6, Bohemia), and Eliza (2, Bohemia). 1880 census (Skull Creek Precinct, Butler County, Nebr.): Joseph Jakl (age 49, farmer, born Bohemia), Barbory (wife, 42, housekeeper, Bohemia), Mary (daughter, 15, Bohemia), Rosey (daughter, 12, Bohemia), and Joseph (son, 7, Bohemia). 1885 census (Skull Creek Township, Butler County, Nebr.): Joseph Jagl (age 49, farmer, born Bohemia), Barbara (wife, 46, keeps house, Bohemia), Mary (daughter, 19, Bohemia), Rose (daughter, 17, Bohemia), and Joseph (son, 12, Nebr.). 1900 census (Brainard, Butler County, Nebr.) Joseph Jakal (born March 1836, Bohemia, emigrated 1869) and Barbora (wife, September 1838, Bohemia, emigrated 1869, married 37 years, four children, two living). '''''''''''' The Ulysses Dispatch , November 24, 1909, p. 3, col. 5 Jos. Jakl sr. died Nov. 18, at the home of his son, aged 75 years. He was born in Bohemia and came to America and Butler county in 1870. His wife died 5 yrs ago. Only a son and daughter are living of a family of four children. Funeral services were held Saturday, Rev. Father Murphy officiating, after which burial was made in the Catholic cemetery. Mr. Jakl jr. desires to tender his sincere thanks to the friends and neighbors who rendered him such kindly service when sorrow visited his home.
