Bio

Joseph F. Scholz, 75, of Bellwood, Nebraska, died Thursday, June 20, 2019, at Brookestone Acres in Columbus after an extended illness. A memorial visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 26, from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. at the Gass Haney Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to Wounded Warrior Project or other military veteran causes. Joe was born on July 31, 1943, to Marlin D. and Mary (Hiller) Scholz in Bellevue, Nebraska. He graduated from Marietta School in 1961, and then entered the military. He served in the U.S. Army from 1961 – 1964 and from 1977-1994, retiring SFC. Joe's favorite pastimes were painting, artwork, leatherwork, and building model planes. He was instrumental in helping construct the Veteran's Memorial in Bellwood, Nebraska in 2007. Joe is survived by: Wife: Shirley Scholz of Bellwood, NE Sons: Brad and Craig Scholz of Manhattan, KS Two Grandchildren: Colby Scholz of Manhattan, KS Brittany (Scholz) Waller of McAlester, OK Two Great Grandchildren: Addison and Liam Waller Mother of his children: Betty West Five Siblings: Rita (Al) Hanus Fran (Jim) Mick Pat Kochenderfer Ken (Chris) Scholz Greg Scholz Joe was preceded in death by: Parents: Marlin & Mary Scholz
